Building a Family Legacy
Anthony Garcia-Ramirez is a freshman at the University of California, Riverside. He is studying political science, inspired by his service on Nevada County’s first Youth Commission while a student at Truckee High School. He also recently declared a minor in Environmental Studies. He is passionate about mental health and forest health, and he is ambitious about returning to serve Tahoe Truckee after getting his college degree. He is also the first in his family to attend college. He won’t be the last.
Last spring, Anthony received significant support from the Tahoe Truckee community when he impressed volunteer scholarship committees with his academic focus, ambition, and character. He was awarded the Tahoe Donner Impact Scholarship, through which an anonymous donor supports exceptional students with a $60,000 scholarship. He also received the Mountain Area Preservation (MAP) Environmental Scholarship for students with a desire and passion to make a positive impact in a future career in the environment. These awards, both facilitated through TTCF, represent something bigger than financial support: They are a message from this community that his potential is worth investing in. Meet Anthony.

I recently spoke with my mom on the phone, and afterward was lying on my bed just looking up, thinking about the scholarship—I am so thankful. My family could not financially support me with that type of money. It motivates me to use this scholarship wisely and one day pay it back to my community.
