Forests – Fall 2025

Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation (TTCF) recently committed a multi-year grant totaling $1 million to the Truckee River Watershed Council (TRWC). A longtime partner, TRWC is a lead collaborator in coordinating the Middle Truckee River Watershed Forest Partnership focused on landscape-level projects across the Truckee River watershed. Prior to this year, TTCF granted $95,000 to help fund the studies, project prioritization, and planning that set the table for this collaborative work. This grant is vital in enabling partners to coordinate leveraged funds and connect workforce and contractors to landscapes that are shovel-ready.

TTCF’s Forest Futures strategy, launched in 2021, has three key approaches: Protect Our Communities, Steward Our Forests, and Build a Forest Economy. TTCF is not “on the ground” thinning our forests. Instead, we raise and distribute significant funding for our partners who are. This has been a learning journey. Forest restoration projects typically span years and encompass many moving and interdependent pieces that can delay timelines and stall progress. Partnering with the TRWC circumvents many of these obstacles.
