Shelter as Strategy: An Action Plan to Address Homelessness

Ensuring Older Adults Can Age In The Community They Helped Build

TTCF keeps our finger on the pulse of the community’s needs. Our Community Collaborative of Tahoe Truckee (CCTT) works closely with community partners and community members to identify and address emerging needs. This fall, growing concerns about the availability of housing options and services for aging residents came to the surface, in particular the question of whether or not residents can safely age in place in Tahoe Truckee.

TTCF engaged the community through real-time polling in the Sierra Sun, and hosted a “Lunch and Learn” session to foster discussion and gather feedback. We discovered that snow removal, winter safety, and the availability of affordable housing are the top challenges preventing many seniors from staying in their homes. In partnership with local organizations, we are working to develop and implement practical solutions that address these needs.

The conversation around aging in place is just one piece of a larger puzzle when it comes to creating a community where everyone—regardless of age—can thrive. The Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation aims to continue these discussions and collaborate with local specialists and community members to address the distinct challenges seniors face.
