$1.7 Million in Scholarships Awarded to Local Young People
In May, 149 local high school seniors received the good news that they were awarded a scholarship to pursue higher education. Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation (TTCF) distributed more than $1.7 million alongside our community scholarship partners. Recipients will follow diverse educational paths, from four-year degrees in engineering and business to one-year certifications in welding, cosmetology, and more. Many young people plan to return with their skills and knowledge to strengthen our region, and scholarships make it easier to do so by lowering the financial burden of continued education.
As a primarily need-based scholarship program, TTCF focuses on carefully assessing students’ financial needs to determine how each award can have the most significant impact.
Workforce Development: Forest Futures Scholarships Take Root
This year’s scholarship season saw an influx of students pursuing careers in forestry and fire-suppression, with an expressed interest in working in North Tahoe – Truckee upon completion of their training. In response, we launched the new Forest Futures Scholarships program. Through these scholarships, we invest in a new generation of stewards—individuals dedicated to creating healthier forests, safer communities, and more resilient environments. TTCF launched the Forest Futures Initiative to create regenerative solutions to our forest health crisis in 2021. Workforce development has been a key component of our impact strategy.
Maeve Kristian, a Truckee High School 2025 graduate, received a Forest Futures Scholarship. Maeve will study Forestry at the University of Montana this coming fall. Read about Maeve’s passion for the environment here.

I hope to preserve the places where people can go outside and enjoy nature in a respectful and responsible way. I want to foster connections between people and the outdoors to encourage them to care about the land and give back. I am eager to work with organizations that keep open space available, so people can go and enjoy the outdoors.
