Behind Every Strong Nonprofit is a Strong Board of Directors
Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation (TTCF) hosted the Nonprofit Board Governance Series this June. TTCF designed this educational workshop series to strengthen leadership and effectiveness across our nonprofit sector. More than 50 existing and aspiring nonprofit board leaders participated in the four-part workshop series, which covered a wide range of topics from strategic planning to fundraising. Rounding out the curriculum with break-out exercises, TTCF invited seasoned nonprofit board members and professionals to provide rich panel discussions and storytelling, with a Q&A session for participants to dive deeper.
TTCF has trained 200+ local leaders in board governance best practices since launching the series in 2015. Effective governance is foundational to a thriving nonprofit sector and a more resilient community. Participants left with actionable tools to advance their organization’s mission with integrity and impact. We are deeply grateful to our partners and participants for investing their time and energy in this critical work as we build a stronger, more connected nonprofit network in North Tahoe Truckee.

Board members should be deeply invested and committed to the cause, actively engaging in committees and fundraising but not micromanaging the Executive Director. Roles and responsibilities should be discussed and refined regularly. Genuine care and interest are essential for building a strong, effective partnership that drives the organization forward.
